Aquila Corde Armoniche se distingue par la production de cordes pour les concerts historiques et modernes, selon les critères traditionnels des luthiers italiens.
Aquila exploite ses propres usines d’extrusion de monofilaments, équipées de dispositifs de contrôle laser qui garantissent une production de haute qualité de monofilaments synthétiques destinés à la musique. Aquila est mondialement connue pour son innovation constante et la découverte de nouveaux matériaux : Nylgut®, Bionylon®, Sugar®, Red Series, Silkgut®, Biocarbon®.
L’entreprise a été fondée en 1991 par son fondateur et actuel propriétaire, Mimmo Peruffo, chercheur et luthier italien de renom. Il a formulé et établi de manière convaincante la théorie selon laquelle des cordes en boyau imprégné étaient utilisées pour les cordes graves des luths au XVII^e siècle. Cette solution conférait une richesse sonore aux cordes graves, alors que les cordes métalliques filées (une innovation de la fin du XVII^e siècle) n’existaient pas encore. Grâce à ses recherches dans divers musées européens et internationaux, il a activement contribué à la recherche scientifique dans le domaine de la fabrication des cordes, réalisant un véritable travail d’archéologie industrielle.
En 1997, Mimmo Peruffo a breveté et introduit le NYLGUT®, un matériau synthétique qui offre un excellent substitut au boyau sur les instruments à cordes pincées, améliorant considérablement leurs performances.
Enfin, l’entreprise reste aujourd’hui l’une des rares entreprises italiennes à perpétuer la tradition centenaire de la fabrication de cordes en boyau italien. En 2018, elle a réussi à redécouvrir la méthode italienne de fabrication de cordes en boyau d’agneau non fendu, recréant ainsi le processus de production historique. En 2020, après une année d’expérimentation scientifique, Aquila a consolidé son esprit d’innovation en brevetant une série de cordes synthétiques pour instruments à cordes frottées.

Aquila runs its own extrusion plants for monofilaments, complete of laser control devices that allow a high-quality production standard of synthetic monofilament for musical use. Aquila is known worldwide for its constant innovation and discovery of new materials : Nylgut®, Bionylon®, Sugar®, Red Series, Silkgut®, Biocarbon®.
The company was founded in 1991 by the founder and current owner Mimmo Peruffo, a well-known Italian researcher and string maker. He was able to formulate and convincingly establish the theory that ‘loaded’ or impregnated gut strings were used for bass strings on lutes in the 17^th century. This solution gave a richness of sound to bass strings when wound metal strings (an innovation of the later 17^th century) had not yet been invented. Thanks to his research in various European and international museums, he has made an active contribution to scientific research in the field of string manufacture with a real work of industrial archaeology.
In 1997 Mimmo Peruffo patented and introduced to the NYLGUT®, a synthetic material that offers a good substitute for gut on plucked instruments, greatly improving their performance.
Finally, even today, the company is still one of the few companies in Italy to continue the century long tradition of Italian gut string making. In 2018 the company succeeded in rediscovering the Italian method of making strings using unsplit lamb gut, thereby recreating the historical production process. In 2020, after a year of scientific experimentation, Aquila consolidated its innovative spirit by patenting a series of synthetic strings for bowed instruments.
